The Detroit ePowertrain: The Heart of the eM2
The eM2 is an electric box truck built on Detroit’s legacy of powertrain innovation. It closely resembles the familiar and trusted M2, but with an electric powertrain replacing the traditional axle internal combustion engine (ICE).
The eM2 features a fully integrated, 100% battery-electric Detroit® ePowertrain™, including Detroit® eAxles and batteries, achieving the best possible energy efficiency and minimizing cost per mile. Multiple battery size options are available, allowing you to find the right balance between range and price:
- Class 6 Single-Motor: Provides up to 190 HP of continuous power, a 194 kWh battery and a typical range of 180 miles on one charge.
- Class 7 Dual-Motor: Provides up to 255 HP of continuous power, a 291 kWh battery and a typical range of 250 miles on one charge.
The seamless integration of powertrain technology allows for maximum fleet efficiency, giving you the power to do more with electric.

Detroit Connect allows fleet managers to have charging information and vehicle health data available at their fingertips. Detroit Connect’s new eServices allow for fleet managers to:
- Remotely manage and automate charging for multiple vehicles sharing a depot, reducing overall energy costs
- Plan new routes with real-time range prediction, updating automatically for traffic, weather, topography and other conditions.
- Monitor battery health and state-of-charge for multiple units in real time.
- Collect data for post-trip analysis reports, which can help coach drivers to maximize energy efficiency and battery lifespan.

Advanced Safety Features
Safety is a top priority at Freightliner, and the eM2 is no exception. It comes standard with the Detroit Assurance® Suite of Safety Systems, which sets the standard for safety in the commercial vehicle industry with a range of smart, tech-forward features, including:
- Active brake assist 5 (ABA 5) helps the eM2 mitigate potential collisions with vehicles and moving pedestrians via warnings and automatically engaging partial or full braking.
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC) to 0 mph automatically adjusts the eM2’s cruising speed to maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles.
- Lane departure warning (LDW) makes it easier to keep the eM2 between the lines by notifying the driver if the truck drifts into another lane without signaling.
- Side guard assist (SGA) has the driver’s back – and their side – by alerting them about objects and pedestrians in their truck’s passenger-side blind spot.
