How long have you been a truck driver?
I’ve been a truck driver for the past 17 years. I started as a company driver for a large OTR carrier doing mostly regional/local. I then moved into leasing and owning with another big carrier, and for the past five years I have had my own authority.
What do you do when you are stuck in traffic?
Breathe. I’m mostly driving in local LA local, so you can imagine I’m stuck in traffic often. It can definitely test your patience and doing these runs has taught me a whole new level of patience. It’s always a good idea to keep a cushion around your vehicle and watch out for that person not paying attention.
What do you listen to on the radio?
I like to listen to a little bit of everything, except rap. Some of my favorites are 90s Ska and Alternative. Sometimes I’ll listen to news reports, but more often it’s just music.
Do you still use the CB radio?
Actually, yes. I will usually have it turned on during longer hauls to Vegas or outside of my local area. There’s typically a lot of chatter in my local areas, but sometimes it’s not as valuable. I can recall notifying other truckers numerous times about issues with their trailers or equipment.
What’s your favorite stretch of highway?
There’s a 30 mile stretch in Arizona in the northwest corner of state between Nevada and Utah. It’s a canyon drive with river run, red and white rock cliffs. It’s absolutely stunning.
What’s the best feature on your Freightliner truck?
The best feature on my Freightliner is actually multiple things. For one, the technology is great. I have the integrated drivetrain package installed for maximum fuel efficiency, which is great for my bottom line. I also appreciate the interior creature comforts, such as the work station. I enjoy being able to sit at a table and relax during my lunch or have the space to work on paperwork.
What role does social media play in your life?
Social media has a big impact in my life. I have family that lives out of the area and friends around the country, so it’s great to be able to stay in contact with them. It’s also very handy for keeping up to date with events, trends, and news within the trucking industry.
